Abstract

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The Moberg flap described for the first time in 1964 has proven to be useful for the resolution of defects ranging from 1cm to 2cm.

Clinical case: 19-year-old male who suffered an accident with an electric saw on the finger tip of the right first finger, was treated with primary closure 10 days before his arrival at our hospital due to necrosis of said finger tip.

Discussion: Although the Moberg flap is used mainly in acute situations, it can also be used for the reconstruction of the volar surface of the first finger in a second surgical stage when required. Choosing the appropriate flap design for reconstruction with these flaps offers the best chance for a successful outcome.

Conclusion: The Moberg volar advancement flap is a good option for finger tip defects which are less than or equal to 2 cm. In cases with a length greater than 2 cm, reconstruction using a modified Moberg flap should be preferred.
