Abstract

Background: COVID-19 has severely positioned as a public health problem that appeared since November 2019, spreading worldwide until today (August 2021). In the case of children these are usually asymptomatic. Although in Ecuador this behavior occurs in infants, many cases of multisystemic inflammatory syndrome (SIM) are known. Although this virus presents a varied symptomatology, 20% affects the skin and causes different types of lesions, being acral lesions such as erythema and chilblains the most prevalent.

Objective: Identify the most prevalent skin lesions found in the pediatric population with COVID infection 19.

Results: The following medical search engines were used: Pubmed, Scopus, Redalyc and Hindawi, with the keywords: “Infant”, “Covid-19”, “Infection”, “Skin lesion”, “Complication”, “Disease”, “Children”, “Pandemic”, Likewise, the Boolean operators "And" and "Or" were used, according to the present work, most of the articles reviewed were retrospective, observational, descriptive and case series, regarding age the average age was 10 to 94 years and sex 56.29% for males and 43.71% for females, the most common dermal lesions were chilblains, erythema and acute acral eruptions..

Conclusions: The identification of the COVID 19 virus and the cutaneous manifestation must be differentiated in the pediatric age from any other pathology caused by a microorganism other than this virus, so the clinical and PCR test must be the tool for its diagnosis.
