Abstract

ABSTRACT

Schizophrenia is a psychotic disorder in which, due to various biochemical and anatomical disorders, the person suffers hallucinations, delirium, disorganized speech and
thinking, cognitive impairment and loss of habits, among other symptoms. Although it
is popularly associated with violent and criminal attitudes, the discernment between
science and stigma continues to be a gray area in the framework of justice and forensic and legal medicine.
Hence, a theoretical review was carried out to analyze schizophrenia and its implications from a legal medical approach, through scientific reviews that will enable the
Ecuadorian state to establish early identification and intervention techniques.
So, the aim is to accumulate knowledge that addresses the issue raised, emphasizing
on the current state of the problem and on initiatives emerged from the most recent
evidence, so that this constitutes a step forward to guarantee human and constitutional rights for this vulnerable population.
