Author Guidelines

Journal Policies and Guidelines for the Author

These are general guidelines that apply to "The Ecuador Journal of Medicine" listed unless otherwise noted.

To ensure the quality production of knowledge resources in various fields, "The Ecuador Journal of Medicine" are peer-reviewed (the author and reviewer do not reveal each other during the review process). Strict criteria of quality, originality and meaning are applied to all articles in our magazines to maintain a world-class reputation. Only members of the editorial committee, who have been investigated, participate in the peer review of the manuscripts.

Review request

Formal requests for your article to be reviewed should be sent to the email info@fecimecuador.org, any additional information can be made by phone or via WhatsApp at +593962737696 and complete the previous process for assigning your credentials.

Review process

Once the registration has been completed, you will be assigned a username and password that will serve you throughout the review process.

All submissions are made to the CEO and copied to the magazine's specific senior editors.

The article is first subjected to a plagiarism check.
If the document is found to be plagiarized, it is rejected and immediate communication is made to the author for review or resubmission or other decisions.
If it is not plagiarized, the editor removes the authors' details, encodes them, and sends the encoded manuscript to two reviewers.
Once the reviewers have finished, they submit the manuscript to the editor with comments and the author has the opportunity to make corrections as instructed by the reviewers.
After review, the authors return the revised manuscript to the editor, who forwards it again to the first reviewers and the process begins again.
The process is repeated until the reviewers and the editor are satisfied that the manuscript is ready for publication.
Please note that documents can be rejected at any stage if the author does not make corrections as directed.
The CEO ensures that all comments and suggestions are fair and non-judgmental.
The speed of the process depends on the speed of the reviewers and the author's ability to respond quickly.
From our end, we strive to make the review process as quick as possible; where a reviewer should not take more than five days.
Communication is done, before assigning manuscripts to reviewers, to ensure that the reviewer is in a position to complete the process within five days.

Peer review evidence

For peer review evidence purposes; the author receives at least two reviews of their documents with comments once the process is complete. This evidence can be produced at the request of an employer or any other quality control organization.

Plagiarism Policy

All papers presented in "The Ecuador Journal of Medicine" are analyzed for plagiarism once they are received in their original state and a report is generated for the author. If the document has manageable levels of plagiarism (up to 15%), the document is submitted for review and, if accepted, the certificate of acceptance is sent to the author with the plagiarism report. The author is requested to reduce plagiarism to zero. Once the process for the paper is complete, the paper is scanned a second time to ensure a zero percentage of plagiarism.

Language: all documents are assumed to be in Spanish.

Manuscript format

All manuscripts must follow a defined format unless the editorial committee of the journal, chaired by the executive director, determines otherwise.

Manuscripts must be submitted as MS-Word compatible documents (.doc, .docx), must be written on one side with only one column, in Times New Roman or Arial (12 point) font styles.
Manuscripts should be spaced PREVIOUS 6 points 1.5 spaced.
Apart from the tables and figures that should be set in font size of 8-10pt and line spacing in single or minimum.
The upper, lower margin should be 2.5 cm; left and right should be 3 cm.
The orientation of the page must be vertical, with a margin of 0.5 cm in the header and footer. Authors are not supposed to write anything in the footer.
The bold title should appear in a single column on the first page in 16 font size,
Below which the name of the author (s), 12 font size,
Name of affiliation (Name of department, Faculty / University / Institute) 10 font size and
Email ID must be provided centrally aligned in font size 10.

All articles for "The Ecuador Journal of Medicine" should not exceed 20 pages, including references. Authors will be advised to edit any manuscript that does not meet these guidelines.

To avoid unnecessary errors, authors are strongly advised to use the "spell check" and "grammar check" functions of the word processor or online options.

The author must write references in single spacing, font size 10.

Structure of the manuscript.

These guidelines for research papers are flexible, especially for case studies. The manuscript will be organized in the following order:

Title page: The title page must contain the title of the article, which must be accurate and applicable to the case. The title must be in upper and lower case. It must contain the names of all authors and their complete emails with the corresponding author clearly marked. Use an additional page for the title page.

Abstract: The abstract should begin with the problem statement for all journal articles. For example, "The purpose of this article is ..." and should end the importance of the study. It should not exceed 250 words. The abstract should not repeat the information that is already present in the title. References should be avoided.
It must also be written in English

It should be followed immediately by "keywords"

Keywords: they must be according to MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) or DeCS - Descriptors in Health Sciences a maximum of 5 to 6 keywords.

The document should be divided into sections and subheadings preferably beginning with Introduction and ending with Conclusion followed by Acknowledgment.

All documents cited in the text, tables and figures must be included in the references and all documents cited in the references section must be cited in the text. Authors must monitor references in all phases of manuscript preparation. In the event that a cited author has published two or more works during the same year, the reference, both in the text and in the reference list, must be identified with a lowercase letter such as a and b after the date to distinguish the works.

Introduction: this part should begin with the statement of the problem and explain the key terms established, if they are not defined in the summary. It should end with an overview of what to discuss and expect.

Methodology / Methods: it must be a methodology in prose form of no more than 250 words, precise and complete. Specifying the research design, all data collection methods, sampling procedure, sample sizes, and data analysis procedure. This should be comprehensive enough to allow for replay of experiments. However, only truly new procedures need to be described in detail; Previously published procedures should be cited and relevant literature provided at the citation. Important modifications to published procedures should be briefly mentioned. Capitalize trade names and include the manufacturer's name and address. General purpose methods do not need to be described in detail. All data should be applied with experimental statistics / research work. If the manuscript reports on animal work, the corresponding institutional approval number should appear in this section of the text. Literature related to the objective (s) of the article: the content must be relevant to the purpose / objective of the study as indicated in the abstract. The reference in the text must be in Vancouver Style or Standards for Manuscript Publication in the Health Sciences field.

Study Results / Findings - These should be summarized as possible to capture only relevant results / findings. Tables and figures must be named as they appear in the document. This should describe the observations clearly and accurately. The results should be written in the past tense when describing them. The data must be organized in a unified and coherent sequence so that the report develops clearly and logically. The same data should not be presented in both tabular and graphical form, which should be numerically (Arabic numbers like 1, 2, etc.) Cited in the text and interpreted. Only necessary tables and figures should be provided. The interpretation of the data should be addressed in discussion; in some cases, however, it may be desirable to combine the results and the discussion in a single section. Whenever possible, use figures instead of tables, as it is much easier to see trends in a graphical presentation of data. If you use figures and tables, each of them should be descriptively titled.

Discussion: the discussion should be centered, combining the review of the literature, the theory and the results.

Conclusion: clearly stated or listed conclusions from the results. It should be an abstract of no more than 500 words.

Declaration of conflict of interest: Authors must indicate whether or not they have a financial relationship with the organization that sponsored the research.

Acknowledgment: This section is used to acknowledge the contributions of the authorities of the funding institution / agencies that provided the facilities to carry out the research work.

References / Bibliography: All references used in the text should be included here in the Vancouver Style or Standards for Manuscript Publication in the Health Sciences field. Appendices: if any, they should appear after the references and should be titled and labeled as such.

Editing policy

There are two ways to edit in "The Ecuador Journal of Medicine".

The author can choose to have the editorial team of "The Ecuador Journal of Medicine" make their corrections (this is only possible if the initial evaluation report of the manuscript gets a C; which means that the manuscript is "Acceptable [with minor revisions / editorial correction] "). Note that, in this case, the author has to authorize the editorial team of "The Ecuador Journal of Medicine" through the executive director, otherwise they will be asked to make corrections.

Second, the author can choose to make the suggested corrections themselves (they have no choice if the initial evaluation report shows a need for extensive editing and review). Either way, it doesn't affect cost; however, when a review is possible from our end, processing time is saved.

Terms of publication:

Guarantee: each author, by submitting their manuscript to "The Ecuador Journal of Medicine", guarantees that the material is not published or under review for publication elsewhere and that the manuscript is original. The authors guarantee that the manuscript is their work (it does not belong to another person or group of people) and that "The Ecuador Journal of Medicine" has the authority to publish and publish the manuscript.

The authors also declare when publishing in any of our journals that the edition in "The Ecuador Journal of Medicine" and its associated bodies can make adjustments, share and make it available to the databases indexed by the journals now and in the future, or distribute the manuscript without any limitation.

Process

Normal processing of items takes a maximum of four weeks. A quick process can take 7 days.

The acceptance certificate is normally issued once the manuscript has undergone the first round of review and accepted for publication.
