Abstract

Background: A lot of genital and facial infections are caused by Herpes Simplex virus (HSV), the visual several consequences of this pathology affect the life quality of patients.

Case report: Patient 72 year female, hypertension, consultation: red right eye (RE) treated by conjunctivitis (gatifloxacinand dexamethasone) previously.  Corrected Visual Acuity (VA) RE 6/10, Left Eye 8/10,BMC: RE: Giant geographic bound, in more than 80% of the nasal corneal region, no pupillary affection, interpreted as a herpetic bound. Take off previous drugs, and replace it with topical acyclovir 5 times a day and topical ketotifen 2 times a day.

Evolution: Control in 48hs: no changes in VA. BMC: bound regression concern only nasal inferior corneal quadrant of the RE. The patient continued favorable development.

Conclusions: Due to quick treatment favorable evolution, we think that ketotifen act in conjunctival tissue decreasing inflammation and secretion allowed a better absorption of the antiviral and fast improvement of the inflammatory component of the patient.
