Abstract
The purpose of this study is to retrospectively analyze the epidemiological characteristics of patients diagnosed with nasal fractures who were treated at the otolaryngology emergency department in the city of Quito, Ecuador, between June 2021 and
May 2022.
The study includes an assessment of variables such as gender, age, etiology, clinical presentation, complications, and treatment. The etiology of nasal fractures encompassed incidents such as school, family, and street violence, domestic accidents, sports-related injuries, traffic accidents, and falls among the elderly.
The results analysis revealed similarity in the causes of fractures among males, whereas discrepancies were observed in females compared to findings reported in international literature. This epidemiological study provides local data essential for informing medical professionals, especially those in training, about the
therapeutic strategies, identification, and early management of complications associated with nasal fractures within our community.
