Abstract
Background: Cardiovascular risk is the probability that an individual has of suffering diseases of the cardiovascular system within a certain period of time and this depends on the number of risk factors present in the individual.
Objective: To determine the risk factors associated with acute myocardial infarction in patients in the emergency area of the Carlos Andrade Marín Specialty Hospital.
Methodology: A cross-sectional study carried out in the period of January 2018
in the emergency area of the Carlos Andrade Marín Specialty Hospital that included 30 patients diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction with stable clinical condition and patients with evident cognitive impairment and unstable clinical condition were excluded. The variables of interest were modifiable and non-modifiable cardiovascular risk factors.
Results: The risk factors with the highest prevalence obtained in this study are: male sex, mestizo race, age between 41 and 80 years, absence of personal and family history, alcoholism habits and lack of regular physical activity.
Conclusion: Male individuals, mestizo race, aged between 41 to 80 years, with
no personal or family history, with alcoholism habits and who do not perform regular physical activity have a higher risk of suffering from acute myocardial infarction.
