Abstract:
Agenesis of the cecal appendix is one of the less frequent pathologies, described by Morgagni in 1719, and it occurs in 0.001 % of all surgical procedures performed under the diagnosis of appendicitis.
This case is about an 60 old female patient, afected by an acude abdominal pain in the emergency deparment, pain was initially located in hypogastrium subsequently radiating to the right iliac fossa, nausea with absence of vomiting accompanied the medical condition.
On physical examination during superficial and deep palpation, a soft, depressible, painful
abdomen was evident, in addition of presenting appendicular points. Laboratory analysis reported leukocytosis of 12890, neutrofilia of 78.6% and a negative ultrasonographie.
Condition was classified as acute appendicitis, so it was surgically resolved through the rocky davis incision, dentifying a Collins type III appendicular.
Where finally appendix was not found due to a difficult pre-surgical diagnosis and a very rare condition, assertion is not recommended until inspection of the cecal and retrocecal region during surgery
