Abstract:
Objective: To carry out an updated research of scientific literature regarding the use of multimodal analgesia as an alternative in the treatment of postoperative pain in pediatric patients.
Material and methods: Descriptive theoretical review. Primary information sources were used: scientific articles from indexed journals published in PubMed, Cochrane, EMBASE and Science Direct databases. Only reviews published from 2015 to 2020 that met the inclusion criteria were included.
Results: A total of 34 publications that met the inclusion criteria were used from the analyzed databases, with 2020 being the most representative in terms of publications. 70.5% of these were systematic and theoretical reviews and the remaining clinical trials. 85% of the studies explicitly mentioned at least one multimodal therapy for pain control in children, where the
most frequent was the use of Paracetamol plus NSAIDs and Gabapentin combined with opioids.
Conclusion: The observed trend in the last year in terms of type of publications were documentary and systematic reviews, these papers highlight the currently widespread use of NSAIDs and paracetamol as the main tool for the multimodal control of postoperative pain in children, and the use of the anticonvulsant Gabapentin as an adjunct to opioid therapy to achieve better pain control and decrease in opioid use
